Speech team takes sweepstakes in Muleshoe

The speech and debate team took sweepstakes in Muleshoe  on Oct. 11.

Junior Blayne Childers, junior Ivan Froese, sophomore Madeline Hiebert and junior Kelby Miller each qualified for the Texas Forensics Association state tournament in March.

In duet acting, Childers and Hiebert took first, junior Kolt Blackmon and sophomore Faith Klassen took third, sophomore Ashley Harder and junior Haylie Hicks took fourth, and freshman Isabel Acosta and junior Daniel Griffin took fifth.

In dramatic interpretation, Miller was first, Childers was second, Harder was third, Hiebert was fourth, junior Vanessa Torres was fifth, and sophomore Lauren Franco was sixth.

In humorous interpretation, Miller was first, Froese was second, Childers was third, Franco was fourth, and Hiebert was sixth.

In duo interpretation, Childers and Miller took first, Froese and senior Jordan Smith took second, senior Jimmie Vaughn and senior Kyle Rickman took third, senior Raquel Rivera and junior Destiny Winn took fourth, and senior Erynn James and Torres took fifth.

In prose, Miller was first, Froese was second, Rickman was fourth, Franco was fifth, and sophomore David Glendenning was sixth.

In poetry, Griffin was second, Hiebert was fourth, and Torres was fifth.

In foreign extemporaneous speaking, Rickman was third.

In original oratory, Vaughn was third.

In Lincoln-Douglas debate, junior Cassandra Schultz was third.

In domestic extemporaneous speaking, Vaughn was fifth.

Childers was named outstanding actor.

Miller was named most outstanding in interp.

Vaughn was named outstanding speaker.
