Forensics defeats 14 teams in El Paso

The speech and debate team took defeated 14 schools at El Paso Burges on Sept. 13 to claim sweepstakes.

In duet acting, sophomore Ashley Harder and junior Haylie Hicks took first, junior Blayne Childers and sophomore Madeline Hiebert took second, freshman Isabel Acosta and junior Daniel Griffin took fifth, and junior Kelby Miller and senior Alissa Wright took third.

In poetry, Acosta was first, senior Kyle Rickman was third, and sophomore Grace Hatley.

In humorous interpretation, junior Ivan Froese was first, senior Erynn James was third, junior Kolt Blackmon was fourth, and Griffin was fifth.

In dramatic interpretation, Childers was second, Miller was third, junior Destiny Win was fourth, sophomore Claudia Ramos was fifth, and Hicks was sixth.

In duo interpretation, Childers and Miller took first, Froese and senior Jordan Smith took second, James and junior Vanessa Torres took third, Hatley and Wright took fourth, and Rickman and senior Jimmie Vaughn took fifth.

Childers was named outstanding interper at the meet.

In prose, Childers was second, Harder was fourth, Hicks was sixth, and sophomore Lauren Franco was sixth.

In Lincoln-Douglas debate, junior Cassandra Schultz was second, and sophomore Yesenia Olivas was third.

In foreign extemporaneous speaking, junior Ethan Ruiz was fifth.
