People are always asking me, how do you do it? How do you make people love you? I always tell them, it’s all in the presentation. People aren’t animals. You have to be able to make an impression, one they won’t forget. And what better day than Valentine’s Day to slap people upside the head and say, “Here I am, love me.”
Chocolates, paper hearts, and more chocolates. That’s what Valentine’s is all about, right? That stuff is all fine and dandy, but where is the love behind this holiday? It might be just me, but I like the old school way of celebrating Valentine’s Day.
I love Valentine’s Day. It’s when I can spend the day with that special someone. Of course, it’s meant to be a lovely day, and the element that makes it lovely, is time.
Something about an old school date shows the real connection between two people. The guy should dress nicely, probably with a tie, maybe a suit. He would drive to the lady’s house, pick her up, opening the doors for her and such, and they would go eat somewhere nice. I mean really nice with tablecloths and waiter staff in suits…no paper napkins and fries with that. You know, the kind of menu where a 6 oz. steak is worth $30. (That’s right, guys…if you do the asking, don’t expect her to pay.) If the male isn’t uncomfortable, it’s probably not a nice enough restaurant.
I would probably wear a shirt and tie at least, depending on the kind of restaurant. Then my date and I would spend the evening at a park or a movie theater having a good time.
On a date like this I get that butterflies-in-my-stomach feeling. It’s either my feelings or I’m getting sick. I guess I’d better get it sorted out quickly. When the two of us are talking, I need to remember, unlike a lot of the guys these days, to LISTEN. It is all about the female on this date. Listening and understanding are probably the two most important things a guy can do on a date. It’s guaranteed gold.
Chocolates and hearts are fine gifts. After all it is the thought that counts, but then again, your Valentine doesn’t always know what you’re thinking. So wouldn’t it just be easier to show them? That just seems to be the way women are. They never seem to be satisfied. Guys will put a lot of effort into making something special, something unique and original, made by their own hands, and the ladies still want money to be involved somehow. It may seem sexist, but it also means that I actually care if I spend some cash on her.
Valentine’s Day is a day to re-affirm your relationship with your beloved companion. It shouldn’t be a chore to find her a gift. It should be a time to ask yourself, “How can I make this day the best day for her/him?” It’s a day where they can say “I know why I’m with her/him, and I can’t wait to go out”.
I’m not into that love-at-first-sight, mushy kinda love, but if that’s what you’re all about, then go for it. It’s a special day, and you should happily make it as special as that person is to you.
I know Valentine’s can be a hated day for those who don’t have a relationship, but if you do have one, use it to show how much you care about one another. That is the way it should be.
