Speech team takes sweepstakes at Tech

The speech team will compete in the Ysleta High School tournament in El Paso on Sept. 16.

The team took sweepstakes at the Texas Tech invitational on Sept. 9.

In prose, junior Dillon Gutierrez placed fourth, sophomore Bryce Lopez placed fifth, and freshman Reese Cooper took sixth.

In duo interpretation, Gutierrez and senior Carter Laramore took first, while senior Isabel Acosta and junior Phiona Hiebert took third.

In humorous interpretation, Acosta took first, and Gutierrez placed fifth.

In dramatic interpretation, Hiebert placed second, Acosta was third, Laramore took fourth, and sophomore Eleny Macias placed sixth.

In duet acting, Laramore and Acosta took first, while Lopez and Macias placed second, and sophomores Yssa Bentancourt and Destiny Conejo took fourth.

In poetry, sophomore Madison Dyck placed second, Hiebert took third, Acosta placed fourth, and junior Grace Emig took sixth.

In the Lincoln-Douglas debate, junior Nat Little placed third.

In domestic extemporaneous speaking, Laramore took third, and freshman Cathryn Johnson took sixth.
