School board makes unanimous vote for lone superintendent finalist

Superintendent Finalist Gary Laramore

Texline ISD Superintendent Gary Laramore became the lone finalist to replace retiring SISD Superintendent Doug Harriman after a unanimous vote of the SISD Board of Trustees on March 31.

Laramore has a background as a math teacher in both Borger and Panhandle schools. His administrative experience includes being a middle school principal at Canadian ISD in addition to the past nine years as superintendent in Texline.

“I believe that all decision in school should be made in the best interest of students and should be based on valid, reliable and current information,” Laramore said in his educational philosophy. “I believe each person is unique, possessing diverse abilities and talents. The pursuit of excellence requires substantial effort and investment. I believe that all stakeholders in the school need a safe, secure and supportive environment in order to be productive, creative an successful.”

Laramore has a bachelors degree and masters degree from West Texas A&M University and superintendent certification from UTPB. He was named superintendent of the year by the Region 16 Education Service Center in 2013. Laramore currently serves Region 16 on the commissioner’s cabinet.

Laramore wrote that he has high expectations and expects hard work guided by positive vision “essential to achieve success. I believe that all things are possible to those who are willing to work.”

Laramore comes from a family of educators including his father who spent 42 years in education as a band director, principal and superintendent as well as his mother who is a retired elementary teach having taught music and mathematics.

His wife Stacie is also an educator currently working as a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade counselor. They have three children: Carter 15, Makenzie 13 and Andrew 11.
