Inside the lines– Industrial arts junior Royce Snethen and freshman Dakota Baker discuss paint placement on one of the wooden Santas in the display the classes are making to place outside the school. The project involved cutting out the wooden figures from patterns and painting them.

When one walks through the halls of the, one may find doors are decorated cheerfully as the people inside prepare for Christmas. However, who says the outside can’t be as cheery as the inside?

The industrial arts classes have been working on a holiday display project for three weeks and are hoping to have it set up outside soon near the hill, adorned with rocks and winding sidewalks, located north of the auxiliary gym. The wooden display features Santas involved in various sports.

“I’m pretty proud,” sophomore Willow Lee said. “We get to put it up and make the school look pretty. I’m excited for the final outcome because it’ll bring some Christmas spirit to the school.”

It has taken the classes several week to draw, cut out and paint the display. “I think it’s suppose to bring some cheer…,” Lee said. “It’s suppose to inspire people to enjoy their holidays.”

The project is led by instructor Royce Gregory.

“The kids came up with the idea,” Gregory, the industrial arts teacher, said. “Years ago, I had a class with some kids who enjoyed decorating for Christmas just as much as I did. So I got a bunch of coloring books. Santa was in them, doing various sports, and we used them to create cut-outs. We drew them, cut them out, and painted them, setting them up in front of the school.”
