UIL competitors to compete at state meet

The one-act play “Golden Boy” and three speech competitors will compete at the state UIL academic meet in Austin on May 19-21.

“Golden Boy” advanced from region on May 1 along with Andrews High School. Junior Madison Burtch was named best actress and senior Jadon Hatley was best actor. Sophomore Blayne Childers was all star cast, while senior Colton Wheeler was honorable mention.

The speech team took first place as a team, and winners who will compete at state include Hatley who took first in the region in persuasive speaking and third in poetry interpretation, Childers who took first in prose interpretation and sophomore Cassandra Schultz who was second in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Junior Kyle Rickman placed fourth in LD debate.
