From spiders to people to phobias…everyone fears something.
For instance, senior Isabella Hare was afraid of public speaking.
“I’m afraid of talking in front of people,” Hare said. “I used to not be able to even go through the drive thru.”
Freshman Timothy Juarez’s fears are faith-based.
“That fact that God might come back without me being ready,” Juarez said. “I trust in God because I feel like I have a good relationship with Him.”
No matter how irrational the fears was, it was still real to the person who had it.
“I’m scared of the unknown,” Hare said. “It’s just so ambiguous, and we can never really understand it to its full extent.”
Junior Coldy Sanders didn’t like mornings.
“I fear having to wake up early,” Sanders said. “I don’t like getting yelled at by my coaches.”
Sophomore Hanna Cate Harper worried about her mother.
“I’m afraid of my mom dying,” Harper said. “She means a lot to me.”
Freshman Angel Pineda disliked being on his own.
“I’m afraid of being alone,” Pineda said. “ I don’t like being alone with my thoughts.”
Ways to help with fear could include deep breathing, meditation and more sleep among others. Hare’s remedy is to go to a friend.
“My best friend sees things in a similar way as I do,” Hare said. “Instead of telling me that it will be OK, she makes me look at the thing that makes me scared and figure out why.”
Perhaps when dealing with a fear the best way to get over it is by facing it.
