Tribe tennis sits in third place in district with one district opponent left.
The team fell to Cooper Liberty, 17-7, on Sept. 23. Coach John Armstrong said Liberty was the toughest team in district.
“They are a very well coached team, have very talented kids, and have enormous class sizes,” Armstrong said. “The Tribe team is performing very well, and I’m definitely proud of them for it.”
Teamwork, especially in doubles, is a key to success. Junior Victoria Baros said she relies on her partner, senior Karolynn Caballero.
“I’m relatively short,” Baros said, “and in girls doubles, they like to lob a lot. So I rely on Karolynn when I can’t reach those balls.”
Armstrong said that the team has had opportunities to become greater after their losses.
“We have had several matches this year that hit all the markers,” Armstrong said. “We have played in some matches we dominated, some close wins or close losses, and then have had some where a more talented team than us showed us our weaknesses.”
Junior Derek Ware’s goals are become better.
“I haven’t been performing at my standards,” Ware said, “but I’m steadily improving.”
The will finish district hosting Levelland on Sept. 30.
