The Maiden cross country team placed first, while the Indians came in 12th at the Big Spring meet on Sept. 20.
“Our team’s strengths are our determination and ability to push through challenges while supporting each other,” Coach Cara Barnard said. “Each runner has not only pushed themselves to their limit individually but have shown their determination as a team.”
Junior Addison Armstrong got first place in Big Spring, running the 3200-meter course in 12:24.46.
“My improvement has been more mentally than physically,” Armstrong said. “I’ve learned how to push through and not let setbacks define me.”
Freshman Damian Flores was the top finisher for the Indians in 33rd, running the five kilometers in 20:51.36.
“My goals for this season are learning mental toughness and being able to sustain focus during long runs,” Flores said. “I have improved by learning how to refocus and push through when things aren’t going as planned.”
The runners will compete at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock tomorrow.
