The Aqua Tribe will compete in the Grapevine meet on Dec. 6-7 followed by the home meet on Dec. 14.
The Indians were eighth and the Maidens took ninth at the Pecos meet on Nov. 16. Junior Gabryl Alaniz’s best performance came with fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.
“The swim team did pretty good this last meet,” Alaniz said. “There were some who could have performed a little better, but they have been putting in a lot of hard work.”
The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay which has gone to state the past two seasons lost one of its members to graduation. The relay team is trying different swimmers to find the fastest replacement leg.
“We’re working a lot harder then before,” Coach Danielle Sims said. “The less experienced swimmers have been getting better and better.”
Alaniz has been on both the state-qualifying relay team as well as qualifying individually last season.
“I feel like the swim team is going to make it to state this year,” Alaniz said. “We have a lot of strong upperclassman swimmers and decent lower classman swimmers.”
The Maiden team did not have enough healthy swimmers last season to field relays, but the numbers are up this season.
“The girls swim team is much slower than the guys, but for having mainly new people, it has put in a lot work,” junior Laisha Iracheta said. “The more people, the more relays, the more opportunities .”
