The Indians move to 7-1 in district after defeating Monahans, 53-41, on Tuesday. The Indians are tied with Greenwood in the district lead.
Coach Tanner Moore said all 10 players are capable of making big plays in big games.
“They all believe in each other,” Moore said. “Our team chemistry is very good. We have several versatile players who are able to score and defend in multiple ways.”
The Indians have come from behind in several games to win.
“We work harder than other teams,” sophomore guard Logan McCormick said. “We trust in each other, and we are tougher than other teams.”
Moore said their overall team size is small.
“We’ve found ways to overcome that all year,” Moore said. “We have beaten much bigger teams with hustle and teamwork.”
Senior guard Channing Carter passed the 1,000 career point mark in January.
“The coaches and teammates I’ve had over the years helped me be the best I can be and reach my potential,” Carter said.
Moore said they aren’t focused on play-off scenarios.
“Our district is extremely competetive,” Moore said. “We believe that we’ve got a tough task ahead of us to reach our goal of winning a district championship. We will move our focus to the playoffs when the time comes.”
The Indians are striving for another district championship.
“We must playing hard,” sophomore guardJordan Garcia said. “We must keep poise in order to win.”
