The Indian basketball team is working with a skeleton crew due to players still in football playoffs.
“The beginning of basketball season is always a challenge,” Coach Tanner Moore said, “While you are waiting for the football season to end, players have to play on different teams and in different positions.”
Even though some players are gone for football, senior guard Jorge Hernandez Rodriguez said the Indians were a good team.
“We worked hard in the off season,” Hernandez Rodriguez said. “We’ve gotten better as a team while they’re gone.”
Senior guard Channing Carter said the Indians have a lot to offer this basketball season.
“I think that this team is very talented and will do a lot of things that Seminole has never seen before,” Carter said. “We can play very fast as a team because we have a lot of talented guards, and our posts can handle the ball, too.”
The will host Estacado on Nov. 20.
“We will lean on our depth, versatility and team speed and quickness,” Moore said. “I think you’ll see us be able to play positionless basketball on offense and defense, and we hope to take advantage of our opponents in transition and late in quarters.”
Sophomore forward Caton Cramer said the team is a family.
“We’ve played together since elementary school,” Cramer said, “and we have made a bond where we don’t play just to play anymore.”
After the new free throw/foul rules, Moore said it gives them more of an opportunity.
“I think it benefits everyone to have the free throw rules changed,” Moore said. “It allows a team to reset their strategy after a bad quarter. The reset foul count at the end of each quarter allows officials leeway to make adjustments to their impact on games.”
