Going into tonight’s rivalry game with Andrews, the Indians have a 3-0 record.
“This game is so important,” senior offensive lineman Jose Rosalez said. “Andrews made us their homecoming, so we find that very disrespectful.”
Andrews has a 2-1 record following Monahans but defeating Canyon Randall and Greenwood.
Junior quarterback Wyatt Holmstrom has thrown for 923 yards on the season and 13 touchdowns.
“The offensive linemen adjusted by having him earn our respect,” Rosalez said. “Once he did, we began to encourage him as much as we possibly could.”
District will begin on Oct. 6 in Canyon versus. West Plains, a team with 2-1 record. The Wolves have defeated Greenwood and Canyon High but lost to Bushland by one touchdown in the season opener.
“The toughest team in district will probably be West Plains,” senior linebacker Creed Carlisle said. “They’ve gotten so many new kids in their school.”
The Indians still have three games in pre-season including tonight’s match up with Andrews followed by a home game versus Pecos and a road game in Big Spring.
The Indians have to take each game separately and not look ahead.
“We have to stay in focus and not get distracted,” senior defensive lineman Jaylen Stoglin said. “We have to play together.”
