Eleven swimmers qualify for region
NOTE: Due to inclement weather, the Region I swim meet was moved to Feb. 7 and 8.
Eleven Aqua Tribe members qualified for regionals in nine events after district competition in Andrews on Jan. 14-15.
The top six places in each event advanced to regionals in Lubbock at the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center on Feb. 3-5.
The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay of senior Ana Nevarez Castillo, junior Megan Neufeld, junior Karyme Martinez and sophomore Sofiia Lobas took fifth overall, breaking the school record previously set in 2015 with a time of 1:56.28 (old time was 1:56.58).
The men’s 200-yard medley relay of sophomore Eduardo Rodarte, senior Luis Gameros Robles, senior Ian Ramirez and sophomore Blake Neufeld took sixth place in a time of 2:11.09.
In women’s 50-yard freestyle, Lobas took second (27.89).
In women’s 100-yard freestyle, Lobas was sixth (1:04.61).
In men’s 100-yard freestyle, junior Shayne Howard qualified in sixth (58.46).
In women’s 200-yard freestyle, Nevarez Castillo took fifth (2:20.88).
In men’s 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Neufeld, Gameros Robles, Rodarte and Howard took fifth (1:46.11).
In women’s 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Nevarez Castillo, sophomore Brooklyn Bailey, Martinez and Lobas took fourth (4:32.50).
In men’s 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Ramirez, sophomore Landon Elder, Neufeld and Howard was sixth (4:00.81).

In women’s 200-yard freestyle, Megan Neufeld took eighth (2:25.11).
In men’s 50-yard freestyle, Blake Neufeld was eighth (26.41).
In men’s 100-yard freestyle, Howard took seventh (58.46).
In women’s 500-yard freestyle, Bailey was seventh (7:07.94).
In men’s 500-yard freestyle, Ramirez finished eighth (6:26.69).
In women’s 100-yard backstroke, Nevarez Castillo took eighth (1:19.16).
The combined Aqua Tribe took sixth overall with 61 points. The Maiden team took fifth with 36 points while the Indian team was sixth with 25 points.
