Tennis to play final district round vs. Fort Stockton
The tennis team will play the last round of district on Saturday hosting Fort Stockton.
Due to the team’s 17-2 loss to Andrews on Oct. 3, which will mean going west for bi-district. “Hopefully we can get the district runner up to see an El Paso team in bi-district,” junior Jasmin Klassen said. “We would proably see Canyon in area.”
The team has seen district wins over Pecos and Monahans in early rounds.
“District has been great because we have played very strong to win,” junior Alex Froese said. “Everybody stepped up and the game against Monahans was really good practice for Andrews.”
Senior TAylor McGehee said she hopes the players will continue to improve and work harder at their practices.
“As a team we just have to continue to stay positive,” McGehee said. “Right now we’re trying to improve on learning how to move the ball and work on our strokes.”
Andrews was a tough match up.
“Andrews has always been tough,” senior Chris Lopez Delgado said. “The team just has to go through the motions of the game and keep consistency.”
Much of the team does double duty, competing in singles and doubles.
“We plan on going full speed on doubles; playing smart and taking the net,” Klassen said. “Hopefully we will go out of doubles ahead and then finish the job in singles by staying consistent and trusting our abilities because there is some sincere talent out there.”
After Saturday’s district match, the team will face Shallowater in non-district play before bi-district begins the week of Oct. 15.
