GOING TO THE SHOW: Indians defeat Wylie in Region 1 final to qualify for state
The Indian basketball team took a 62-42 win over Wylie in the Region 1 final on March 3 at the Rip Griffin Center on Lubbock Christian University campus, to propel them to the state tournament where they will face Dallas Carter in the state semifinals at 1:30 p.m. on March 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Advance tickets will go on sale at the SISD administration building in the afternoon on March 5 through March 7. School for both March 8 and March 9 has been cancelled. Students will make up one day on April 23 instead of the bad weather day.
The Indians will take on the 32-5 Dallas Carter in the semifinals after the Cowboys defeated Somerset in Region 4 final on March 3.
The Indians led Wylie in the region final from the beginning of first quarter. All-region tournament sophomore Jalen Brattain led scoring with 20, while all-tournament junior Carter Johnson had 14 and tournament MVP senior Reese Moore had 12.
“We’re on cloud nine right now,” Moore said after the win. “It’s awesome!”
Moore had 10 rebounds and Brattain had 11, as the Indians’ defense kept the Bulldogs in check.
“I’m so proud of these guys, so proud of these seniors, so proud of the year,” Coach David Williams said. “After all the obstacles we’ve had to overcome, we’re going to San Antonio. Roll Tribe! It feels good!”
The Indians took their revenge on Midlothian Heritage, 60-57, after last year’s buzzer-beater loss in the region final.
Brattain led the Indians with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, while Moore had six rebounds and 14 points, and  Johnson had 11 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Clayton Medlin had four steals on the game.
