Aqua Tribe qualifies individual, four relays for region contest
The Aqua Tribe will compete in regionals on Feb. 5 and 6. The team qualified one individual and four relays for regionals at the district meet in Andrews on Jan. 23. The Indians placed sixth as a team and the Maidens placed fifth.
On the women’s side, senior Madi Werner advanced in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Werner also competes on the two women’s 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relays which qualified.
“The teams have gotten much better since the beginning of the season,” Werner said.
The men’s teams had both the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays qualify.
“I think I performed well,” said junior Aaron Espinoza, who is on both relays. “I think we will do better at regionals. We have a better mentality.”
Coach Danielle Sims was pleased with the progress the teams have made.
“We haven’t had boys make it this far in a few years,” Sims said. “Madi also has a chance at state this year.”
