Aqua Tribe hosts meet this weekend

Making time Junior Grecia Hermosillo Ortez swims her leg of the medley relay during the Big Spring Meet on Oct. 6. The relay took second in the season opener.

The Aqua Tribe will host its invitational today and tomorrow, but according to Coach Danielle Sims, winning is not a given.

“The home meet will be difficult,” Sims said. “We invited 12 teams to it.”

The team competed in the Keller meet on Dec. 4-5, taking fifth as a combined team with the Maidens in fourth and the Indians in sixth.

“I think I did well,” junior Aaron Espinoza said. “I look forward to the final meets of the season and hope to do well at district.”

The Aqua Tribe is working toward district on Jan. 22-23 in Andrews.

“District has always been very difficult,” Sims said. “We are combined with the 4A schools and the 5A schools as well.”

The swimmers want to shed some time before the district meet.

“The teams have already gotten better since the beginning of the season,” junior Steven Weeks said. “I really want to make it out of district this year. I was really close last year, and I want to redeem myself.”
