MEN’S BASKETBALL: Indians begin after-school practices on Oct. 28
The Indian basketball team will begin after-school practices on Oct. 28 in preparation for the beginning of play in November.
“We have been working hard for months,” senior shooting guard Luke Wimmer said. “We want to get better, and the only way to do that is to practice.”
The team has high expectations for this season, especially after finishing the 2014-2015 season with a 23-9 record and an undefeated 10-0 district record. Their season ended with an area loss to Levelland.
The Indians hope to go undefeated in district again and to advance farther in the playoffs.
“We did a lot of good things last year,” senior post Blayne Childers said. “I want our team to do even better this season, and I think with team work, the sky is the limit for how far we take this.”
The Indians lost eight players to graduation including four starters.
“We lost a lot of great players,” Wimmer said, “but we have a lot of guys who are willing to step up and take on a role in order to help the team.”
Although the Indians lost a lot of players, they still have four returning lettermen who are willing to lead the team.
“We have some experience on this team,” Childers said. “We have some returning guys who have a lot of experience playing in high pressure games who can lead this team.”
The Indians will scrimmage Permian in Odessa on Nov. 14, while their first game will be in Lubbock against Lubbock Christian School on Nov. 17.
“We have a strong team,” Coach David Williams said. “The guys are working hard and looking forward to playing this year.”
