Unofficially faster Senior Madi Werner swims the 50-yard freestyle at the Big Spring tri-meet on Oct. 6. Werner’s time beat the current school record but does not count since it was not a full meet.

The Aqua Tribe started off its season at the Big Spring tri-meet on Oct. 6, taking second.

The team, which will travel to Monahans on Oct. 31, is a young one and faces stiff competition from teams in the district.

“The team is really young and we have a lot of potential,” senior Madi Werner said, “but we have to fight to get better and stronger in our practices before it will show in meets.”

Werner recorded 26.75 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle at the Big Spring meet, which unofficially broke the school record. The record does not count since it did not happen in a full meet.

“I was really excited when coach told me my time and that I beat the school record,” Werner said. “I was really disappointed when I found out that the record won’t count because it was being timed with hand timers instead of automatic timing.”

Warner hopes to be the fastest female 50 freestyle swimmer in SISD history. She needs to finish a time of 27.71 seconds beat Judy Thiessen’s record.
