Tennis team takes seven matches against district opponent
The tennis team took seven of 19 matches during district play against Pecos on the Seminole courts on Sept. 26.
In men’s singles, junior Chris Owen fell to Andy Lin, 7-5, 6-3; senior Royce Snethen defeated Jared Mondragon 6-3, 3-6, 10-5; freshman Austin shorts fell to Ruben Ochoa, 6-3, 6-2; freshman Ronnie Loepky fell to Chris Machuca 6-1, 6-1, junior Peter Padilla fell to Aaron Dominguez 6-3, 6-3; freshman Gatlin Jones fell to Nicosia Dominguez 6-1, 6-2.
In women’s singles, junior Debbie Froese fell to Bethany Carrasco 6-1, 7-6, 11-9; junior Monique Zamora defeated Kaitlin Rayos 6-1, 6-0; sophomore Alondra Gonzales defeated Jennifer Urias, 6-4, 7-5; junior Morgan Gersbach fell to Idalis Esquivel, 6-0, 6-1; sophomore Caanon Gibbons defeated Madison Shumate 6-3, 2-6, 10-8; freshman Barbara Landeros Capetillo fell to Marissa Martinez, 7-5, 7-5.
In men’s doubles, Owen and Snethen defeated Lin and Mondragon 6-2, 6-3; Shortes and Loepky fell to Machuca and A. Dominguez 6-2, 6-3; Padilla and Jones fell to N. Dominguez and Hoyt 6-3, 6-3.
In women’s doubles, Froese and Gersbach fell to Carrasco and Rayos 7-5, 6-3; Zamora and Gonzales defeated Esquivel and Urias 7-5, 7-6; Gibbons and Landeros Capetillo defeated Shumate and Martinez 7-6, 6-2, 10-6.
The tennis team will travel to Monacans for the second round of district play on Oct. 2.
