Runners in Lubbock tomorrow, Maidens take second in Plains
The Indian and Maiden Women’s cross country teams will compete in a regional preview at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock tomorrow.
They started their season in Plains on Sept. 12 where the Maidens took second place in the varsity division.
“I think the team will be good this year,” senior Skyler Franklin said. “We are a young team, and there are a lot of freshmen and sophomores this year, but we can still run well.”
Franklin, who has run cross country since seventh grade, has gotten his time down and is looking forward to what he can do this season.
“I have found where I belong,” Franklin said. “I love to run. People always say I’m crazy because my sport is their sport’s punishment.”
The Indian varsity went into the meet at Plains with high hopes of finishing in the medals but junior Jarryd Karr was pulled at the last minute, leaving the Indians with only four varsity runners, one under the required team five. The Maidens took second place as a team in the Plains meet.
“Since I am only a freshman I get looked down on,” freshman Alexis Howard said. “I look forward to beating people who didn’t expect me to.”
