After winning three state championships, Coach Dickie Faught can now add 600 wins to his collection of successes.
“It falls between 599 and 601. It didn’t feel different, so I just kept on going,” Faught said of the landmark win which came over Fort Stockton in the opener of the Monahans Tournament.
His players took the 600th win a bit more seriously, presenting him with a plaque and autographed basketball after the Midland Christian win on Dec. 11.
“I’m really happy for him,” senior guard Kaleen Sarli said. “He deserves every one of them.”
The Maidens defeated the Lady Mustangs, 37-26, on taking their record to 13-4.
“We worked as a team,” junior post Hope Hicks said. “We didn’t preform to our full potential though.”
The Maidens won the Monahans Tournament on Dec. 8 with a championship win over Greenwood. Sophomore post McKaylee Weishuhn was the tournament MVP and Kaleen Sarli was also named to the all-tournament team.
“It was really good for us,” Faught said. “We had a couple of shaky quarters, but we played well.”
District play begins in Seminole on Jan 4 against Shallowater.
“We will definitely have to play better,” Sarli said. “We haven’t played our best yet, so hopefully we will then.”
Coach Faught believes it will be a battle every Tuesday and Friday night.
“There will be four really good teams to play,” Faught said. “It will be a blood bath every night.”
The Maidens like a challenge.
“I’m excited for a big challenge,” sophomore guard Madison Burtch said, “but I am nervous because I know it will be tough.”
