The Aqua Tribe will be competing in the Hobbs swim this weekend. They started the season with meets in Pecos, Big Spring and Monahans.
“The meets have been okay,” junior Edgar Madrid said. “I think we’re at an advantage [at Hobbs] because it’s in meters, even though most other pools are in yards. We do it in meters here.”
Madrid joins a men’s team with veterans like juniors Chance Pettyjohn and Tyler McCormick, while the women’s team is young.
“The girls are mostly freshmen,” Thiessen said, “so the strongest of us would probably be senior Vicki Caro, sophomore Kourtney Kildow and me.”
The team is working on pre-district speed and technique.
“They’re [meets] going really well,” Thiessen said. “We’re improving our times almost every meet. The hardest thing is going to be accepting that we won’t get better times every time we go to a meet.”
The Aqua Tribe’s most recent competition was in Big Spring on Nov. 18-19.
