Two Seminole students competed at the region cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Nov. 5.
Senior Jasmine Whitzel placed 101st out of 167 runners. Sophomore Michael Condarco made 136th out of 161 runners.
Whitzel qualified for regionals individually, after she placed second at district.
“We were hoping for a top three finish for Jasmine,” Coach Dickie Faught said. “We were very pleased with her performance.”
Condarco qualified individually at district as well placing eighth.
“I wasn’t surprised, I expected it from Michael,” Coach Rick Sprull said.“I thought he’d finish a little bit higher, but I was pleased with his performance.”
This was Whitzel’s first time to compete at regionals for SHS.
“I didn’t do my best at regionals because I psyched myself out,” Whitzel said. “I could have done a lot better than I did.”
This was Condarco’s second appearance at regionals for SHS.
“It wasn’t like last year; I was more prepared,’’ Condarco said. “I progressed a lot more than I did last year.”
The cross country teams competed at the district meet at Gaines County Park on Oct. 26. Both the Indians and Maidens teams each placed fourth at district.
