Artificial intelligence has potential, but we have to be cautious of how it’s being used currently. It’s a new thing and there are so many loopholes.
Students think they found a new way to cheat, but any intelligent teacher can figure out that they’re cheating simply through spotting words or phrases that the average student would never use.
Not only can AI be detrimental for grades, it can be dangerous to personal data. AI can capture personal data to be sold on the internet. It can create dangerous false situations. For instance, AI can fake someone’s voice on a call for a ransom from Mexico, fooling someone into giving up large amounts of money.
Another danger is the bias of the information being used. For instance, when a person asks AI a question, it will give you the answer that has been put in by a person, and all people are biased in one way or another. This is a crutch which can damage critical thinking skills. People can become dependant on AI and lose the ability to think for themselves.
AI can also alter reality. Social media predators can edit photos or produce fake letters and messages.
Another drawback is that people can become addicted, using all their time chatting on sites like Chat GPT.
Although this makes AI seem dark and dangerous, it is intriguing if it is used in a safe, effective way. It is the future of our lives, but we need to learn to educate ourselves, regulate it and balance how we use it.
