The school board named Dr. Glen Teal as the lone finalist for the superintendent position at its March 24 meeting.
Teal is currently the superintendent of Jim Ned Consolidated Independent School District.
The school board must wait 21 days, according to state law, before officially voting to hire Teal as superintendent.
Teal has a bachelor of behavior science from Hardin-Simmons University, a masters of science in education from Baylor University and a PhD-doctor of education and educational leadership from Texas Tech University.
Teal said on the Jim Ned CISD website that over his 30 years in education, he has had many great experiences ranging from teaching and coaching at both the elementary and secondary levels, as well as experience as a principal in both the elementary and secondary settings. He said he has worked in both rural to urban/suburban settings, ranging from small/rural districts to multi-high school districts.
“In each of my experiences, I have based my decisions on what is best for our students, then what is best for the faculty/staff, and then what is best for the district and the community in which we serve,” Teal said on the website. “I place great value on collaborative, team-based leadership as well as instructional leadership as we seek to support our teachers to provide the best opportunities for our students.”
Teal will replace Superintendent Kyle Lynch who is retiring after six years with SISD.
“I’m really proud of the diligence of our trustees to find a leader to move us forward to an even higher level of excellence,” Lynch said.
The selection process for superintendent began in December when the board hired Impact Education Services to help with the search. Impact then collaborated with parents, community members and SISD staff to develop a leadership profile to guide the board in evaluating candidates.
“The district has a long tradition of choosing strong experienced leaders to lead our team,” board President Shane Wimmer said. “On behalf of the Seminole School Board, we are excited to partner with Dr. Teal to carry on that tradition, and we are confident that he is the right person to lead us into the future.”
The board will finalize hiring Teal on April 14.
