Speech team wins in El Paso
The speech team took the championship in El Paso at Ysleta High School on Sept. 16.
They will compete at Riverside High School in El Paso on Sept. 30.
In poetry, senior Isabel Acosta took the championship, freshman Reese Cooper took third, sophomore Eleny Macias took fourth, junior Grace Emig took fifth, and sophomore Madison Dyck took sixth.
In prose, Emig took second, Acosta took third, freshman Aleigh Verdusco took fourth, and senior Alex Gonzales took fifth.
In domestic extemporaneous speaking, junior Nat Little took first while junior Carlye Winfrey took third, and freshman Caleb Alexander took sixth.
In humorous interpretation, Acosta took first, junior Dillon Gutierrez took second, junior Jesus Bustamante took fourth, and Macias was sixth. In dramatic interpretation, junior Phiona Hiebert took second and Gutierrez took fourth.
In duo interpretation, Acosta and Hiebert took first. In the Lincoln-Douglas debate, Little took the championship. In duet acting, Hiebert and Gonzales took second, while sophomore Bryce Lopez and Macias were sixth.
