Academic team takes third in Texas Tech Classic
The UIL academic team took third place in the 3A-4A division of the Texas Tech Classic on Jan. 17.
In ready writing, senior Jake Froese took second.
In calculators, junior Jordan Lashaway placed sixth overall. The team placed third overall.
In 11th grade calculators, Lashway placed fourth, junior Kenzie Ivins was sixth and junior Jocelin Loewen was seventh.
In number sense, Lashaway placed sixth overall and third in the 11th grade division.
In mathematics, junior Neil Thiessen placed third overall, Loewen was sixth and senior Mark Harms was seventh. The team placed third overall.
In 11th grade mathematics, Thiessen placed third, Loewen was fourth and Lashaway was sixth.
In 12th grade mathematics, Harms placed first.
In science, Harms placed seventh overall, and Loewen was eighth.
In 11th grade science, Loewen placed third, Lashaway was fifth, junior Abby Navarro was seventh, Thiessen was ninth and Ivins was 10th.
In 12th grade science, Harms placed third.
In spelling and vocabulary, sophomore Yesenia Olivas placed fourth and sophomore Sarah Smith placed eighth.
The journalism team took second overall.
In news writing, junior Sara Fehr placed sixth.
In feature writing, senior Arin Hindman placed second and senior Sarah Patterson placed fifth.
In headline writing, Patterson placed first and Hindman was second.
The social studies team of junior Royce Snethen, junior Ethan Ruiz and Fehr took second overall. Snethen took second place individually, and Ruiz took fourth.
