SkillsUSA auto tech fixes bikes for tikes

Ready for Santa– Auto tech students show off the bicycles they refurbished for area children. The classes work on the service project every Christmas season.

Christmas is the time of giving gifts and spreading cheer; however, children in the community are often left without gifts or cheer, but auto tech SkillsUSA plans to make some of these children a little happier with a bicycle.

“We get broken down bikes and fix them up in various ways, like fixing the handle bars, for kids in need during Christmas,” senior Taylor Mull said. “I enjoy working on this project because I see a lot of value in it.”

Auto tech senior Seth Koedyker said he didn’t get to go to the give-away last year but hopes to go this year because “It’s a good feeling” to help the kids.

According to the auto tech teacher Tom Spence, the skills program helps 20 to 30 people each year with this project.

The classes deliver the bicycles to the children at the civic center tentatively set for Dec. 20.
