Even though most students celebrate the holiday with family, no two families celebrate the same way.
Some people travel for Christmas and some people stay home.
“We either stay at home or go to California,” freshman Taberah Georges said. “It just depends on the year.”
Junior Logan McCormick spends his holiday with four generations.
“We usually spend Christmas with both grandparents and great grandparents,” McCormick said.
The debate about opening gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day depended on family traditions as well. Senior Jazzelle Vela’s family combined both.
“We get to open one present onChristmas Eve,” Vela said. “We open the rest on Christmas morning.”
Another tradition was filling stockings. Vela said she usually got gift cards, lip gloss, make up and face masks in her stocking. Georges said the stocking tradition had worn off for her.
“My little brothers do it,” Georges said. “But it’s not so much for me any more.”
Holiday meals were as varied as families’ personalities.
Vela said her family had tamales, rice, beans and aside for Christmas dinner, while McCormick had ham, pancakes and eggs.
Other traditions were unique to each family.
“We do advent calendars each year “ freshman Rome Rodriguez said.
Whatever the traditions were, families did the holidays their way so memories could fuel their spirit for years to come.
