Movie: The Wild Robot (PG)
My rating: ♦♦♦♦♦ The Wild Robot (2024) was a very entertaining and emotional movie. It was full of relatable and interesting topics. Even though the movie is PG and is most likely to be overlooked by adults, it gives a personal message on what parents go through with their children.
The Wild Robot (2024) is set in an island surrounded by water in the spring. The robot’s name is ROZZUM unit 7134 or Roz and was sent to the island to help anyone in need of assistance. As time goes by, Roz learns and adapts to her new environment. One night there were some raccoons who were trying to steal Roz’s robot parts and while trying to get them back, she was chased by a bear and nearly fell off a cliff. During that process she accidentally took down a tree with goose’s nest. When she looked over the nest, she found one goose egg intact and decided to assist it.
Roz’s life went from calm to chaotic when she made that decision. When the goose started to grow up, Roz helped it eat, learn how to swim and making him fly by fall in order to help him survive the winter. Who would have known those three steps would lead to something greater than just a job well done.
The director of this film is Chris Sanders, a man best known for his animation (Lilo and Stitch). This movie was released by DreamWorks Animation and is based on the book, The Wild Robot (2016) by Peter Brown. Roz’s voice is done by Lupita Nyong’o, (Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, The 355).
Entering the movie theater with my mom and cousin was not only part of girls’ night, but also an opportunity to feel and connect to the movie. When Roz found herself in the position of helping the baby goose after its family is gone, she made the decision of finding out how to help it while subconsciously forming a deeper connection.
Having a mom who has provided for anything I could ask for, this movie helped me appreciate her even more. Roz made the decision to take care of Brightbill even though she didn’t have to. As the long neck goose (voiced by Bill Nighy, the Science Guy) said of the connection of a parent and child, “Sometimes hearts have their own conversations.”
I feel like this movie shows the message of our decision-making. When we make decisions, we understand that those decisions might benefit or destroy us in the long run. I also believe this movie portrays motherhood and how good parenting allows children to grow up to be independent and conscious of their surroundings as the parents to give them room to grow.
