SOUNDBITE: Columnist can’t wait for Mockingjay premiere
As an avid reader I am always excited when they make a book that I have read into a movie. However, for the first part of the final Hunger Games movie I am more than excited. I am ecstatic!
The book was action packed and full of drama between family, government and, of course, the love triangle. Gale was more present in the first books than the movies so the competition for Katniss’s affection was more evident in the earlier books than in the earlier movies. I, personally, am a Peeta fan, but there are others who are Gale girls. The only way to find out who she’ll choose is to see the movie or read the books. No spoilers here.
The trailers for the movie only get me more pumped for the movie. As far as they have advertised, the movie seems to follow the book closely. I have heard rumors that one specific character who died in the book won’t die in the movie because Suzanne Collins regretted killing him off in the book. Although it doesn’t follow the book, I am surprisingly okay with it because I really like that character.
My main question is where will it end? Thinking back to the book I cannot recall a good spot to split the book in half. It is non-stop action from beginning to end. The trailer gives no hint. There is one spot that I can think of but it is too close to the end to make an entire movie. I suppose I’ll just have to go see it to find out.
The popular thing to do in movies now is to make a series that is based on books and split the last book into two movies, that way they get more money. On the plus side for audiences it makes the series last longer just like they did with the Harry Potter and Twilight series. The wait for the second part to the last one, though, is very long. People make predictions and write blogs about how it will end. In the last book a handful of new characters were introduced and dozens of scenes were in new places that weren’t in the other books. I am excited to see what the imaginations of the directors and set designers will do. Overall, I am so ready for this movie to come out! Mockingjay Part 1 premieres tonight.
