If I was trapped on a deserted island with unlimited battery on my iPod (or in a box with a fox, etc…you know the scenario) but could only have 10 songs…a difficult assignment. Here goes… This is my ultimate playlist.
No. 10. “This Ain’t Nothin’” by Craig Morgan–This song to me is really deep. It just lets me know there are things in life more important and meaningful that aren’t material. It’s a true country blues song.
No. 9. “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars–This is a real chill and let life go song. It has a relaxing tune and sound to it. It would be for the day I swear I’m not doing anything. Plus the music video is hilarious although I don’t know if that would be allowed on this island.
No. 8. “Play That Funky Music Whiteboy” by Wild Cherry–This song isn’t recorded with the best quality, but it is just a fun song. It is one of those where you just have to move to the groove. I’d be on a deserted island so no one would see my awful dancing.
No. 7. “She’s so Mean” by Matchbox 20–This is a song I can relate to because I’ve known people who act like the girl in the song. I love Rob Thomas’s voice. He is just a great song writer.
No. 6. “100 Years” by Five For Fighting–This song is very personal to me. It’s the first song I ever sang when I was old enough to actually know what I was doing. It always tells me I only have at most 100 years to live, and I need to make the most of it. Right now, I’m in the “15–there’s-still-time-for-you” stage. I’ve only got 84-85 years left, and they’re going by fast.
No. 5. “Happy Ending” from MIKA’s first album–This is one of my all time favorites that I will tell my grandchildren about. I love this song. I could listen to it on repeat for hours at a time if I wanted to.
No. 4. “Popular Song” from MIKA’s newest album–I really can relate to the lyrics in this song. It has a great beat and you can’t help moving with it and singing along. It is just two people singing about how unpopular they were once and how the situation has changed.
No. 3. “Sad” by Maroon 5–We have all had or will have this feeling about someone–having lost a love and wishing that you hadn’t messed it up because there may not be another love like it. Adam Levine sings this song beautifully with only a piano. It is the most beautiful pop song I have ever heard and probably ever will.
No. 2. “Payphone” by Maroon 5–We all know this song. We have heard it a billion times. I admit it; I am addicted to it. It is probably the biggest song ever for Maroon 5. I’m reasonably sure it produced more money than the album itself. I love just singing along. I can also semi-rap in the song, and this coming from the skinny white boy from a small West Texas town.
No. 1. “What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts. It was the first song I performed in front of a large crowd. It is my all-time favorite. When I sang it, I was actually going through something that was almost exactly like the song. It hits me deep when I hear this song because it has meant so much to me over the years.
That’s my top 10 songs. No “Oppa Gangam Style” or Lil Wayne in there. It is all good music that I think everyone could enjoy.
