What’s out there this time is what’s new in the library. Since I work in the library, I have access to any new or interesting-looking novels. Here are three I sampled recently.
——
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
This book would be classified as… sci-fi-ish for girls. Emphasis on the ish. It’s another one of those books that’s set in the future with a crazy kind of government system that wants to make all the choices. There was apparently a decision to make a cure for love. The main character Lena is all for the cure until, go figure, she falls in love. It’s an interesting book but also, in a way, predictable and probably not something a guy would want to read. If you’re a romantic, I would suggest this book to you. Otherwise, you probably wouldn’t like it.
The City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
This is the last book in the Mortal Instruments series. Obviously, I would advise you to read the first three before stepping into this last one. This book is pretty good considering some of the less-than-worthy things that have been written and published over the years. It’s interesting, funny and slightly different from the gag-inducing vampire stories we have fallen into nowadays. There are vampires in this book, but they don’t sparkle. They’re not the main focus of the story either.
As Easy as Falling Off the Face of the Earth by Lynne Rae Perkins
In this book, the main character Ry steps off the train to inform his relatives of his unorthodox situation when, surprisingly ahead of schedule, it leaves him in the middle of nowhere. Soon after, Ry meets Del, and they journey together to his home and in search of his parents. I wouldn’t know how to classify this book. It’s weird and normal and then weird again, but it’s interesting and a pretty good book overall. This book will make you smirk, if not laugh.
