If you have already read The Hunger Games, you don’t need me to convince you to read Catching Fire, the sequel.
Much like the first book, Catching Fire keeps you on your toes, hoping against hope for something good to happen. Peeta Mellark is back, as much in love with Katniss Everdeen as ever and willing to do anything it takes to keep her alive.
What’s a story without conflict? If you’re the type to stray away from drama, be ready for some head-splitting scenarios. I know I’ve taken quite a few headache pills in the process of reading this book. There were times when I felt like yelling, “Resolution! I need resolution!”
The action never stops with Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games series. When you feel willing to alleviate your stress enough to put the book down, you’ll be right back into the thick of things in a matter of minutes, if not seconds.
In this book, you officially meet President Snow, the leader of Panem’s Capitol District and its districts. He’s creepy right off the bat and stays that way throughout the book: definite antagonist.
Rumors of District 13 having life start spreading and Katniss struggles to realize what’s true and what isn’t.
If you haven’t read The Hunger Games and are not in denial that reading is fun, I highly advise you to check it out. (It is currently in the school library, begging to be taken up.) I haven’t been as enthralled with a series since Harry Potter, although the two are extremely different. There is absolutely no fantasy in The Hunger Games, which is set in the distant future. On a scale from Twilight to Harry Potter, The Hunger Games is so very near the top that I almost feel bad thinking it. I’m an awfully loyal Harry Potter fan.
If you’ve ever even thought about reading something, but you’re not sure what, I would recommend The Hunger Games series over and over. One word of caution to those who are squeamish, though; it can be a bit detailed in the gore area, and it has its share of curse words. If that’s all that’s keeping you from reading it, though, I would think again.
Now if I tell you it will soon be a movie, you’ll just wait for that and skip the book. Sigh… You’re missing out is all I’m going to say.
This movie is sure to be amazing. Josh Hutcherson is going to play Peeta and Jennifer Lawrence will be Katniss. I know Hutcherson will be the perfect Peeta, but I don’t know anything about Lawrence except that she looks the part. Liam Hemsworth, yes, Miley Cyrus’s love interest in the movie The Last Song, will be playing Gale Hawthorne, Katniss’s best friend. Donald Sutherland will be playing the eerie President Snow, which I think will work out pretty well.
These books have everything a person could want in a story. So shake the dust off your library card and check it out. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
