Alvidrez takes second at state powerlifting meet

Show of strength– Junior Andrew Alvidrez benches 300 pounds in his first place finish at the Seminole meet on Feb. 8. Alvidrez took second place in state on March 21, lifting a combined 1,330 pounds.

Junior Andrew Alvidrez took second place lifting a total weight of 1,330 pounds, just 50 pounds shy of first place Deroddrick Hadnot from Jasper in the 148-pound division at the state powerlifting meet in Abilene on March 22. This was the highest place for Alvidrez in the three years he has competed at the state level. He squatted 535 pounds, benched 295 pounds and dead lifted 500 pounds.

Junior Salvador Antillon took 11th place in the 123-pound division, squatting 310 pounds, benching 175 pounds and dead lifting 340 pounds for an 825-pound total.

Seminole took 16th place as a team with five points in the state meet.
