Gaining yards Junior tight end Brennon Dominguez takes a catch extra yards during the third quarter of the Estacado game on Oct. 25. Dominguez had two catches for 34 yards in the 42-21 Indian loss.

Turnovers. That is what Coach Chris Burtch wants the Indian offense to fix. Without them he thinks the football team performance will improve against Levelland tonight.

“We need to keep the ball,” Burtch said. “If we don’t turn the ball over, we will be fine.”

The Indians have faced a front-heavy schedule for district so far, playing Shallowater, Cooper and Estacado for the first. The season ends with Levelland (one district win) and Andrews (no district wins) on Nov. 8. With the new four-team advancement rule, the Indians control their own fate to win out.

“We have to dominate and do what is right every chance we get,” senior linebacker Ramon Juarez said. “The next two games are the most winable, and we need to take advantage of it.”

Burtch said that Levelland doesn’t have the same talent as the other district teams the Indians have faced so far.

“They are big and physical, so we just need to stay low and take it to them,” Burtch said. “They don’t have any real stand-out players, so they are pretty all-around.”

With playoffs still possible, senior lineman Colton Wheeler hopes it will motivate the team.

“We really have a great opportunity to make playoffs,” Wheeler said. “We need to keep fighting through all quarters until the game ends.”

Burtch is please about junior quarterback Jarett Johnson’s played against Estacado.

“Jarett played well,” Burtch said. “We took a lot of complicated things, out and it sure showed in his performance.”

Senior lineman Jordon Dyck said the offense needs to step up tonight.

“We need to stop turning the ball over,” Dyck said. “Then with everyone doing their job, we can finish district with two wins.”

Receiver junior Sabraun Adams is concentrating on individual improvement for tonight.

“I need to work on my downfield blocking,” Adams said. “It’s one of the little things that matter.”

The Indians face Levelland tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Wigwam Stadium.
