The Indian and Maiden cross country teams travel to Plains tomorrow for the third meet of the season.
After the first two meets, the runners are figuring out where they stand for teams and working on building stamina and improving times.
Three time-region qualifier senior Susie Thiessen has found competition in junior Destini Thomas. Thomas has caught up to Thiessen at the home meet on Sept. 4, beating her by .06 seconds, but Thiessen renewed the competition by topping Thomas by .09 seconds on Sept. 11 in Lubbock.
“It’s not really something new,” Thomas said. “We always run together, and we always switch places in different races.”
The Indian team, which saw a rebuilding year in 2009, has an influx of freshmen and first-time competitors to add to its ranks. Freshman Michael Condarco shows promise, logging the top time among Indians in the first meet and finishing 15th at the on Sept. 11
“We look pretty good considering a few didn’t run in the first meet,” Indian Coach Rick Spruill said. “I’m helping them improve by having them do workouts every day, running and doing long distance.”
