Do vegetarians eat animal crackers? Are all vegetarians hippies? When vegetarians watch a western movie, do they cry when the horse dies but not when the cowboy dies? Are all vegetarians tree huggers? Are all vegetarians puny? Are all vegetarians angry with the bottled water market? Do vegetarians not eat anything? Do all vegetarians love People for Ethical Treatment of Animals? Are vegetarians aliens?
Yes.
A vegetarian is a strange, hippie-like person who tortures fruits and vegetables for fun. They often go around preaching “meat is murder” and “pigs are friends, not food” to all omnivores. Vegetarians are extremely liberal because apparently their diets affect their political views. Vegetarians do not belong in Texas. They belong in California.
Vegetarians are also members of religious cults. At least this is what the public believes.
As a vegetarian, I have heard many stereotypes and misconceptions. The fact is, vegetarians are just as normal as the next person. I do even eat animal crackers. They are delicious.
I like peaceful living, but I am not a hippie. I’m not into the long, unmannaged hair in a headband and used clothing thing.
I may be a baby when it comes to animals dying in a western film, but I do care about humans too. Because I am a human, I feel that I have to care about other humans.
A common stereotype is thatl vegetarians are tree huggers. How could someone who eats trees also hug trees? This is a mystery to me.Vegetarians base their diet on leaf-like foods. This is like saying all carnivores are cow huggers. I doubt it.
Another stereotype is that vegetarians are puny. I can agree with that. Have you ever watched me try to open a bottle of water?
Not all vegetarians hate the bottled water industry either. Like I said, I’m not a tree hugger.
I often hear people say that vegetarians do not eat anything. If this is true, I have defied science by not eating anything for over three years.
Not all vegetarians agree with PETA. I don’t agree with anything they do. It sounds like a good idea. I would love for every animal to be treated ethically. Sadly, it’s too good to be true; they took it way too far. I think it’s hilarious when someone walks by with a shirt on that says “PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals”. I’m not a Michael Vick fan, but I’m not a PETA fan either.
Vegetarians do eat green things, but in most cases, their skin isn’t green. We are not aliens.
Often, when someone finds out I’m a vegetarian, his or her thoughts about me change. I find this quite hilarious. Vegetarianism is only a diet which just makes me a normal person with a different diet than meat-eating types.
So, I may not be a hippie-tree hugger-omnivore-hater; but I am a vegetarian.

Awesome article Angela! Stereotypes are based out of ignorant thinking. I’m glad you brought to light the misconceptions of being a vegetarian. You rock!
