Technical work Juniors Josh Palomo, Ernie Loewen and freshman Max Wiebe put together wheels and base for their groups’ robot during second period construction engineering class. The students will have the opportunity to go to contest with their projects.

For the first time in two years, industial arts will go to competition. Industrial arts are working toward robotics competition on Jan. 18.

The students are making their own robots. These robots will have to go through a series of tests in under three minutes. During these three minutes, one task that the robot must complete is traveling to a basket of blocks, picking up and transporting the block to a different basket. Another task is when the robot has to latch onto a bar and pull itself up, just like a regular person doing a pull up.

In another competition the students will build a robot with a camera on it. These resemble smaller medical robots which go into small disaster areas where humans can’t go.

Three teams are available within the industrial arts program, sponsor David Smith said that if anyone else would like to join the teams, practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.
