UIL academic team takes second at Red Raider Classic on Jan. 13.

The UIL academic team took second place overall at the Red Raider Classic on Jan. 13.

The spelling and vocabulary team took first overall with senior Lacy Jackson in second, sophomore Jeremy Lawrence in fourth and freshman Alyssa Harder in fifth.

The current issues and events team of senior Katie Spradlin, junior Nat Little and junior Jesus Bustamante took second overall. Spradlin took third individually.

The accounting team of junior Landry Ritchey, senior Antonio Arreola Lechuga and junior Chris Lopez Delgado took second overall. Ritchey was seventh and Arreola Lechuga was ninth individually.

In calculator, sophomore Eleny Macias took eighth in the 10th grade division.

The journalism team took the team championship which involves four events.

In newswriting, senior Anna Teichroeb was first, sophomore Dustie Beaubien took second, junior Dusty Barron was third, and junior Jessenia Balderas took fourth.

In feature writing, Barron was second, Teichroeb was third, Beaubien was fourth and Balderas took sixth.

In editorial writing, Barron was third, while Teichroeb took fourth.

In headline writing, Teichroeb was second, Beaubien took third, and Balderas was fourth.

The UIL team will compete again at Texas Tech on February 24.
