17 vocalists qualify to try out for all state

Seventeen vocalists qualified for the area choir on Nov. 28 at Coronado High School and a chance to try out for the all-state choir in January.
Fifty-six students from the Region 16 gathered to compete for 32 chairs with the top eight on each part making area.
In soprano, sophomore Lisa Klassen was second chair, junior Erin Lentz was fourth chair, junior Hailey Blair was fifth chair, sophomore Carrie Quiring was sixth chair, sophomore Samantha Gutierrez was eighth chair.
In alto, sophomore Robin Franklin took first chair, sophomore Briana Froese was fourth chair, junior Jaicen Clark was fifth chair, senior Abi Avitia Lopez was sixth chair, and freshman Kataryna Felan was eighth chair.
In tenor, senior Josh Ramirez was fourth chair, freshman Cason Johnson took fifth chair, sophomore Kaillon Sawatzky was sixth, and freshman Bijan Kantar was seventh.
In the bass section, senior Austin Shortes took second chair,
sophomore Moises Ybaben Burciaga was fourth chair, and freshman Eli Call took eighth chair.
The students will audition for the all-state small school choir at Midland Lee High School on Jan. 12.
