MY VIEW: Anticipating my vote for president

Since I get to vote this year, I’ve been paying a lot of attention to the upcoming election.

I am not saying I like Hillary Clinton, but my distaste for Donald Trump is far greater. I was going to look into Trump’s tweets, but I couldn’t. I was cringing two tweets in. Take for instance, this post from the Huffington Post, “Unlike any major candidate in generations, Donald Trump is temperamentally, emotionally, and intellectually unfit to be President of the United States.”

Clinton is the lesser of two evils in my opinion. She has political experience; she was the First Lady, Secretary of State, and senator. This makes her far more fit to run the country. Trump is a television reality personality, and he seems to have no respect for anyone other than rich, white males. Since I am none of those, you can see my point.

Things Trump says often contradicts things he has said in the past. “I know Hillary, and I think she’d make a great President.” -Trump, 2008. Searching ‘Trump exposes Trump’ on YouTube gave me a great deal of insight.

Texas is generally a Republican state. These two candidates are changing that. The Dallas Morning News endorsed Clinton, the first Democrat in 76 years, saying, “Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote.” The DMN not only endorsed her, but also praised her.

Immigration is another issue which affects me since my ancestors came to the US. Trump wants to build a wall that Mexico is supposed to help pay for. Why exactly would Mexico pay for the wall to keep itself out of the United States? Come on now. Trump said, ‘We have to stop the wrong people; we have to stop people with hate in their heart from coming here.”

It sounds to me like he’s the one with hate in his heart. Just because there are extremists blowing things up doesn’t mean we should condemn a whole religion that is actually supposed to be peaceful. Clinton has a much more agreeable plan for immigration saying, ‘I am 100 percent behind comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship.’

Seminole has a lot of Mennonites, and a lot of them are Trump supporters. I know because I live in a house full of them and have gotten into a number of arguments with others about the election. I hope they realize they are supporting someone who wants to send them “back to Mennovia or wherever they came from.” Mennovia isn’t even a place, and Mennonite is a religion which is protected by the First Amendment. His logic behind wanting us out is, “They’re pacifists. If there’s one thing our country cannot tolerate, it’s people who believe there are other ways of solving our problems than bombing the h*ll out of people we don’t like.” This is why I believe World War III will start if Trump becomes president.

I have tried to get someone to tell me why Trump would make a good president, but all they can do is squawk about not wanting Clinton. I have tried to understand Trumps policies, but he keeps contradicting himself. Why would we want someone in office who can’t stick by his own words or even control his own hair?
