Two speech students qualify for state UIL academic competition

Two speech students qualified for state after they placed third or better in the Region 1-4A academic meet on April 8. The team, which includes one-act play, took third place overall with 108 points. Wylie took first with 295 points, while Andrews was second with 114 points.

Senior Grace Hatley qualified for state by placing second in poetry interpretation, while senior Madeline Hiebert qualified in third place in prose interpretation.

The speech team took first place overall, receiving an extra 10 points.

Junior Carter Laramore took fourth as alternate to state in persuasive speaking, while sophomore Nat Little took fourth in informative speaking as state alternate.

Senior Nikki Loewen took fourth as state alternate in prose interpretation.

Little also took fifth in Lincoln-Douglas debate.

Junior Anna Teichroeb took fifth place in feature writing.
