Academic team wins Tech meet

The UIL academic team took first place overall at the Texas Tech Fall Fandango on Nov. 20.

The literary criticism team took first place team with senior Kaitlyn Daniels in first, senior Michelle Guevara-Gonzalez in second and senior J.D. Martin in fourth.

The spelling and vocabulary team took first place team with sophomore Lacy Jackson in first, junior Nick Acosta in third and sophomore Celestia Wilkey in fourth.

The journalism team took first place overall which included four events.

In news writing, senior Sara Fehr took first, junior Eva Neufeld took third and junior Amy Letkeman took fifth.

In feature writing, Neufeld took first, Fehr took second and Letkeman took fifth.

In editorial writing, Neufeld was third and Jackson was fourth.

In headline writing, Fehr took first, Letkeman took second and Neufeld took third.

The mathematics team took second overall with senior Neil Thiessen in seventh and senior Jocelin Loewen in ninth.

In the 11th grade math division, junior Sarah Smith was second and N. Acosta was third.

In the 12th grade math division, Thiessen was fourth, Loewen was fifth, senior Neal Froese was eighth and senior Abby Navarro was ninth.

In ready writing, senior Tori Acosta was first and junior Yesenia Olivas was third.

The calculator team took third overall with senior Jordan Lashaway in sixth and Loewen in eighth.

In the 10th grade calculator, sophomore Jesus Ayala was sixth.

In the 11th grade division, Smith was fourth.

In the 12th grade division, Lashaway was fifth and Loewen was sixth.

In number sense, Lashaway took 10th overall. In 12th grade number sense, Lashaway was fifth and Navarro was sixth.

In 11th grade number sense, junior Alyssa Carnes was third and Smith was fourth.

The social studies team took third overall with Lashaway taking third place individually.

The science team came in third overall with Navarro in ninth and Ayala in 10th individually.

In 12th grade science Navarro was fifth, senior Skyler Franklin was sixth, Loewen was seventh and Thiessen was eighth.

In 11th grade science, Carnes was fifth.

In 10th grade science, Ayala was third.
