Forensics takes win at Central meet

The speech and debate team took sweepstakes at the San Angelo Central meet on Nov. 7, defeating 19 other schools.

In impromptu speaking, sophomore Isabel Acosta was third, and senior Ethan Ruiz took eighth.

In domestic extemporaneous speaking, senior Antonio Porras was second, and Ruiz was fourth.

In Lincoln-Douglas debate, senior Cassandra Schultz took second.

In humorous interpretation, senior Kelby Miller was second, junior Madeline Hiebert was third, senior Ivan Froese was fourth, Acosta was fifth, and junior Faith Klassen was sixth.

In dramatic interpretation, Froese took first, junior Grace Hatley took second, Acosta was third, freshman Schultz was fifth, and junior Nikki Loewen was sixth.

In poetry, freshman Dillon Gutierrez took first, freshman Phiona Hiebert took second, Miller was third, senior Daniel Griffin was fourth, junior Lauren Franco was fifth, Loewen took sixth, Hatley took seventh and junior David Glendinning took eighth.

In prose, Froese was first, Miller was second, M. Hiebert was third, Acosta was fourth,  junior Ashlye Harder took fifth, Klassen was sixth and A. Schultz took seventh.

In duet acting, Miller and M. Hiebert took second, Froese and Loewen took third, P. Hiebert and Griffen were fourth, and Hatley and Klassen took fifth.

In duo interpretation, senior Vanessa Torres and senior Haylie Hicks were first, Klassen and Franco were second, senior Destiny Winn and Hatley took third, Acosta and senior America Hernandez took fourth, Harder and Loewen took fifth and M. Hiebert and Froese took sixth.

Froese was named outstanding in interpretation.

C. Schultz, Hicks, Torres and Froese qualified for Texas Forensics League competition in March.
