ONE-ACT WINS AGAIN: UIL academic team takes 84 points at state meet

State-champion one-act– (Back) Erynn James, Kendyl Waller, Lindsey Wimmer, Sadie Wheeler, Madeline Hiebert, Nikki Loewen, Haylie Hicks, Claudia Ramos, Destiny Winn, Ashley Harder, (middle) Isabel Acosta, Brooke McCormick, Abby Navarro, Grace Hatley, Sarah Shirley, Lauren Franco, Alex Gonzales, (front) Daniel Griffin, Bailey Seay, Kelby Miller, Blayne Childers, Kyle Rickman, Derek Cox, Jimmie Vaughn, Ivan Froese, Jason Arrezola

The UIL academic team which includes all events took fourth place overall on May 26 at the state meet with 84 points. Argyle High School took first with 175 points, Wylie High School was second with 107 points and Salado High School was third with 95 points.

The one-act play A Night Thoreau Spent in Jail added a state championship to its list of accomplishments at the state meet on May 26 in Austin.

Junior Blayne Childers took best actor and won the Samuel French Award. Junior Kelby Miller was named to the all-star cast while sophomore Nikki Loewen was honorable mention. Senior Sarah Shirley was named as outstanding technical crew.

The speech team took the state championship on May 27 with four members placing at state.

In prose interpretation, Miller took second, Childers took third and junior Ivan Froese was fourth.

In informative speaking, junior Antonio Porras took fourth.
